Digital Impressions &
3D Scanning

Precise imaging solutions using the latest technology

You may have heard of 3D Intraoral Scanning, leading edge technology revolutionising the dental industry.

3D intraoral scanning allows more accurate and precise digital impressions that can be instantly sent to the laboratory so they can start on your work straight away. The best part, often it means your dentist doesn’t have to take messy impressions inside your mouth with that goop we all hate having in our mouths.

These scanners work by capturing thousands of pictures of the inside of your mouth using a specially designed ‘wand’ and assembling them into an incredibly accurate 3D model of your mouth, teeth and gums. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes and unlike traditional impressions your dentist can stop at any time for you to swallow, rest or talk. We often use this kind of scanner when we’re doing complex dental treatment plans as it helps us plan out the best treatment for patients who have highly compromised teeth and might require crowns and veneers to help bring their dental health and smile back to life.

It’s also really useful when it comes to patients who are going ahead with Invisalign treatment too as the technology can help you visualise possible early indication of results and no messy impressions.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, a precise scan of the tooth surfaces is recorded using high-resolution sensors and a short-wave laser. 3D scanners can take up to one million 3D pixels per second, and this technology makes optical high-frequency contrast analysis more accurate than before. This accuracy far exceeds any that could be achieved with the manual impressions used in the past.
